Royal Association for Deaf people announces retirement of its Chair
It is with great sadness that the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) announces that its Chair, Toby Burton, will retire at the organisation’s AGM in July 2019.
A passionate, inspirational and dedicated leader Toby will be much missed by RAD’s staff, volunteers and his fellow trustees.
During his ten years of service Toby has experienced a lot of change and has worked closely with the Board and Executive Team to overcome several challenges faced by the organisation.
Chair since 2015, Toby has been instrumental in ensuring a financially sustainable RAD that enables and maintains a culture whereby Deaf people are empowered to create and control their individual aspirations and that the organisation delivers a lasting legacy that will benefit Deaf people for many years to come.s family all the very best for the future.”
On announcing his decision to retire Toby said, “It has been a huge privilege to serve first as a trustee and then as Chair of this exceptional Deaf organisation that has unrivaled history since 1841. I deeply appreciate having had the opportunity to work alongside a committed Board, passionate Executive Team and so many talented staff to advance the RAD vision and to have witnessed the transformation of what is now an organisation that is on the cusp of an exciting new chapter in their journey to create a better, more accessible future. I am confident the organisation will continue to thrive, building on its unique Joint Leadership model, combining the exceptional strengths of Amanda, Lesley and Sue, the dedication of its workforce and its cultural drive to excellence and inclusiveness with and within the Deaf community”.
RAD’s Joint Chief Executives, Amanda Casson-Webb, Lesley Frearson and Sue Mountford said, “On behalf of RAD’s staff and volunteers we would like to thank Toby for his support, belief and commitment. He has been a tremendous Chair and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He will be sorely missed but we wish Toby and his family all the very best for the future.”
