Christmas Carol Service for Deaf and Deafblind people
Schools across Essex are busy rehearsing for the annual carol service for Deaf and DeafBlind people to be held at Chelmsford Cathedral on Friday 7th December.
Hosted by Royal Association for Deaf people, the service will be conducted in British Sign Language by the Chaplain amongst Deaf People in the Diocese (with voiceover).
Nick Skinner, Head of Enhanced Provision for Deaf Students at Philp Morant School tell us his pupils are very much looking forward to the Service:
“We are always delighted to participate in the Christmas Carol Service at Chelmsford Cathedral. For many of us the Christmas season starts right there! It is a pleasure to be part of this very moving and joyous event. The students are always so excited to contribute, and willingly give up every lunch-time for weeks in advance in order to practise. They enjoy meeting deaf friends and peers, and performing in front of proud parents and family.
It is great for them to see that there are other deaf students just like them in other enhanced provisions in the county. They thoroughly enjoy this coming together in the true spirit of Christmas.”
The service begins at 10.30am and we politely request that the congregation is seated by 10.20am. British Sign Language Interpreters, lipspeakers and a loop system will be provided.
